We’ve been sponsoring the Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Architecture Awards since 1989 and we hope to continue this long standing tradition for many years to come.

We were delighted yet again to have constructed a number of projects recognised at the 2019 Queensland Awards on Friday night, held at Hutchies-built Howard Smith Wharves. Out of the six distinctions we received, three were awards ranging from educational and residential architecture to urban design. These three wins will advance to the National Awards held later this year.

A big thanks to AIA for hosting another amazing awards night and congratulations to everyone!

Hutchies makes history at qld master builders 2020 housing & construction state awards https://stalcaire.com.au/hutchies-makes-history-at-qld-master-builders-2020-housing-construction-state-awards/ Tue, 30 Nov 2021 10:14:14 +0000 https://web.ohiosaab.com/?p=1781

Hutchies’ affinity with Queensland has once again been highlighted at this year’s Master Builders State Awards, which live streamed October 23. Not only did we celebrate our 100 year membership milestone with Master Builders Queensland, but we also made history, taking out the top commercial and residential project of the year awards — the first builder to do so in the 33 years that the awards have been running.

The Project of the Year was awarded to Skytower, Brisbane’s tallest tower, which soars 274m above the CBD. House of the Year award was claimed by Domic, Sunshine Beach’s ‘house in the sand dunes’. In addition to these major awards, several of Hutchies’ projects won across multiple other construction categories.

We attribute our success at the awards to our people and our deep connection to the state. Established in Queensland over 108 years ago, we like to think our business has grown up with the region. From humble beginnings in Brisbane, Hutchies has matured to become one of Australia’s most recognised family-owned brands, with a footprint that stretches across regional Queensland and throughout Australia.

Together, Hutchies and Wagners have achieved the incredible… https://stalcaire.com.au/together-hutchies-and-wagners-have-achieved-the-incredible-milestone-of-the-worlds-largest-continuous-slab-pour/ Tue, 30 Nov 2021 10:12:14 +0000 https://web.ohiosaab.com/?p=1777 On 19 February 2021, Hutchies in conjunction with Earth Friendly Concrete® (EFC) by Wagners, Creteco.QLD, Concrete Partners and Kat Concrete Pumping achieved a milestone with the world’s largest continuous slab pour using a ZERO-cement technology. The pour, commenced at 3:00am with 11 trucks delivering 46 loads of EFC and lasted 10 hours.

Together we placed 310 cubic metres, forming the foundation of the slab for the new Wellcamp Regional Distribution & Trade Centre cold room. The facility’s expansion will play a critical role in the storage of agricultural products, ready for export through the Wellcamp Airport and as such will be a large driver of Toowoomba’s economy. The additions comprise four state-of-the-art large cold rooms, a temperature-controlled storeroom, a general storeroom and an external storage area, which will all service premium goods including beef, dairy products, fresh fruit and vegetables, pork and packaged nuts.

Hutchies is a large advocate of the work Wagners is doing in the environmental space and align heavily with their goals. Through utilising EFC on the project, we saved an estimated 75.6 tonnes of carbon emission in the slab’s construction.

HUTCHIES TO BUILD JCU’S NEW STUDENT ACCOMMODATION https://stalcaire.com.au/hutchies-to-build-jcus-new-student-accommodation/ Tue, 30 Nov 2021 10:10:03 +0000 https://web.ohiosaab.com/?p=1774 Construction of JCU’s new student accommodation will start next month, with the University announcing Hutchinson Builders will build the $54m complex on JCU’s Townsville campus.

Hutchinson Builders’ Townsville-based team has won a competitive tender process to build the seven-storey accommodation complex.

The 10,000mbuilding will house more than 400 students and provide contemporary and affordable student accommodation, featuring study bedrooms in group share accommodation, high-quality communal facilities, and a centralised, self-catered kitchen and dining space.

It will be located on Mount Stuart Street, adjacent to the Technology Innovation Complex.

It’s expected the project will create about 150 construction jobs, with an estimated 85% of subcontractors and suppliers locally sourced.

Deputy Vice Chancellor for Services and Resources Tricia Brand said JCU has a long history of working with Hutchies, and she’s delighted construction can begin soon.

“The new student accommodation complex is a crucial element of the renewal of the Townsville campus and is the first construction project in TropiQ, Townsville’s Tropical Intelligence & Health Precinct.

“We know this building will be a major drawcard for students who are looking to live on campus. It will offer high quality accommodation, and contribute to a more vibrant and dynamic campus for our students,” Ms Brand said.

Hutchinson Builders Team Leader Peter Lee said he’s pleased to continue working with Hutchies long-time client, James Cook University. “Together we’ve delivered more than 20 projects since the early 1990s in Cairns, Townsville, Mareeba, Cape Tribulation, and Thursday Island.”

“As Townsville locals since 1987, Hutchies has built in excess of 350 projects across North Queensland from our local office.”

“This long local history and experience gives us deep connections across the region. It means our projects are built by locals, for locals and support other local businesses.”

“It’s a great time to be building major projects like this in Townsville – and we’re excited to be working with JCU on it – it will be a huge boost to our local economy.”

“Hutchies is known for its commitment to training and employing First Australians into meaningful construction careers. We’re targeting 4% participation of Indigenous workers on the JCU project.”

The Federal Government has committed $46 million from its Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) to build the student accommodation on the University’s Townsville Campus. JCU will invest more than $8m in the project.

Site preparations have already begun and construction is expected to begin next month. The building will open to students in Semester One, 2022.
